Ride 1

60 minutes approx

Cross the road to bridleway 7, the entrance is in the lay-by and ride along the concrete path towards the rear of the HSBC training centre.

Go left at the end of the concrete path onto the track, which is about 500m in length.

There is a graveyard to your right where Sir David Yule is buried. His house which can be seen from the bridleway is known as Hanstead House and is now owned by the HSBC.

He died in 1928 and was one of the wealthiest men in Europe, making his money in India from jute. Lady Yule and her daughter Gladys were renowned Arab horse breeders and Hanstead Stud was only in operation for 35 years, but it has had a remarkable worldwide influence, and it should not be forgotten.

Here you can have a safe canter, but slow down as you approach Drop Lane Watch out for the ruts in the path.

Cross the road and cross the River Ver, follow the path through Willow Island . (Herts. CC have just reinstated the path) and then cross the River Colne.

Follow the path around to a T-junction and go rightor you can now go across the field as the old definitive path has now been reopened.

Follow this path for about 1500m (possible canters) Little Munden Farm can be seen to your right in the distance, until you come to a cottage on the right, with
a gate to its right.

Go through this gate and through the River. You will see Munden House to your left. Follow this path through 2 gates, (watch out for concealed cattle grid at the
second gate, as a horse has come to grief there) until you get to Old School Lane.

Cross directly over or you can go left here to the "Old Fox" for refreshments.

If you cross directly over, follow the bridle path through the woods until you come to Bucknalls Lane when you turn right down by some large houses and back into
the woods again. It is possible to have some canters along here.

This path takes you Station Road, where you turn right.

Go under the railway bridge and pass the "Fox & Hounds" to the "Gate" where you turn right.

You are then heading back to Smug Oak Stables, which is on your left.
